Guardian Angels Foundation Mission Statement

  1. To advocate for and provide the highest quality of care and services for persons who require assistance making life and financial decisions due to mental impairments such as dementia, mental illness, traumatic brain injury or developmental disability.
We plan to accomplish this goal by:
    • Empowering persons with disabilities by providing information on how to obtain the supports they need to become and remain as self-reliant and autonomous as possible.
    • Advocating for quality services for persons with disabilities and helping to ensure that those who cannot speak for themselves have the right to have someone speak for them.
    • Establishing programs that promote ethical standards and accountability among legally appointed decision-makers.
    • Providing fiduciary services such as serving as trustee for special needs trusts or agent under power of attorney when there are no family members who can take on that role.
    • Offering other programs as we identify additional needs in the community.

  2. To promote quality services for this population by providing education and supports to their guardian or other legally appointed decision maker.
We will accomplish this goal by:
    • Providing educational publications and seminars for people who serve as decision-maker for another adult, and for professionals who provide services to people who have or may need a legally appointed decision maker.
    • Establishing confidential support groups facilitated by licensed professionals where decision-makers can meet to discuss the role(s) they play and share ideas for coping with challenging situations.
    • Compiling a comprehensive resource guide to assist decision-makers in locating services and obtaining benefits for the person they are assisting.
    • Creating and maintaining a website with information and links regarding education and resources.
    • Offering other programs as we identify additional needs in the community.
